Olive-Harvey College's State-of-the-Art TDL Center Breaking Down Barriers
Cheryl Freeman, CJC Board Member and Dean at Olive-Harvey College (OHC) invited us to tour the state-of-the-art Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics (TDL) Center at Olive-Harvey College in Chicago. OHC is recognized as the Center of Excellence for TDL within the City Colleges network, serving as the primary hub for TDL expertise.
Cheryl Freeman is a leader in the Career Programs and Continuing Education (CPCE) department, focusing on forging partnerships between City Colleges and industry professionals to align curricula with real-world job experiences. The TDL programs at OHC enhance students' classroom experience through practical, hands-on training in automotive and diesel technology, aviation, commercial driving, forklift operation, and supply chain and logistics.
During our visit, we learned about their aviation mechanic and aviation technician programs, as well as the Rivian Technical Trades Program, a five-month training course on electric vehicle technologies. Impressively, OHC also provides a mobile classroom to offer relevant programming in the community, addressing transportation barriers by bringing the training to the students.
Cheryl's team at Olive-Harvey is building pathways to quality employment with good salaries and benefits, ensuring students receive the training they need to succeed.
