Apprenticeship 101 and 201 Workshops

Apprenticeships are proven workforce development tools that offer valuable opportunities to both workers and businesses in today’s economy. However, for apprenticeships to successfully reach a diverse  population, people starting an apprenticeship may need support in overcoming significant barriers. Service providers and community organizations are critical to the success of this winning model for job seekers, employers, and the economy.

With the support of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, The Chicago Jobs Council and Young Invincibles are leading a series of Apprenticeship Workshops all across the state of Illinois. These half-day workshops are aimed at helping community-based workforce organizations learn about the basics of apprenticeship models, their role in supporting the diverse and equitable apprenticeships, and how to take advantage of the opportunities related to apprenticeship in Illinois.

From December to March, we visited each economic region in Illinois to offer Apprenticeship 101 workshops. Thanks to our workshop hosts from Chicago, Chicago Heights, Rock Island, Rockford, Macomb, Springfield, Urbana, Peoria, Edwardsville, Mattoon and Marion! Next up: Apprenticeship 201

After attending free Apprenticeship 201 workshops, you will:

  • Attendees will leave the workshop with a clear vision for the apprenticeship model that they plan to launch in their community
  • Attendees will demonstrate comprehension of their agency’s value proposition by creating and delivering an elevator pitch
  • Develop an action plan that prepares them to pilot their apprenticeship models
