Letter: Providers and Advocates Demand Ventra Improvements

IMG_21101_finalIn a letter released today, social service providers joined with policy advocates to ask CTA for improvements to the Ventra fare system. For years, providers have waited for improvements to basic functionality of the Ventra system, and continue to wait today. Social service providers in Chicago spend almost $1.5 million on Ventra tickets every month, in order to provide rides to critical destinations like job interviews, summer youth programming, medical appointments, and housing services.  (more…)

Broken State, Broken Record

Governor Rauner gave his budget address in Springfield today. In response to the address, Chicago Jobs Council Executive Director Carrie Thomas released the following statement. Today in Springfield, Governor Rauner didn’t tell us anything new. For the eighth month, we have a broken state, and the only response is a broken record. Lauren Sugerman from Chicago Women in Trades presented on the importance of providing women opportunities to enter male-dominated fields, many of which offer much higher pay. She shared with us the striking statistic that only 9% of women earn $50,000 or more, while 42% of men do.
