Steve Simmons
Steve joined CJC in January 2007 as a Statewide Policy Associate focusing on workforce development issues. In this capacity, Steve’s responsibilities include convening workforce development stakeholders in various Illinois communities to improve employment and training policies and programs for low-income job seekers and to increase access to funding for programs in each community.
As a graduate student at the University of Chicago, Steve interned at CJC where he organized stakeholders in Aurora, leading to the creation and funding of a soft-skills, job readiness program located within Aurora’s homeless shelter.
Prior to his move to Chicago, Steve lived in Houston, Texas, and South Bend, Indiana. In these communities, he worked with children and families involved in the child welfare system. Steve has a Bachelor’s degree in history from DePauw University and a Master of Arts from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration.
